Baby Bobcats: Super Common And Super Cute!
Able to be found all over North America, the Bobcat is the most common wildcat on the entire continent. Although they are born weighing only 10 to 12 ounces, bobcats are capable of going off on their own after only 10 to 12 months (at this point they’re about 10lbs). They’re able to do so because of their wide range of survival skills and attributes; these include their excellent hunting and stalking skills, their superior climbing ability, their ability to swim, and their ultra-deep growl; which is so loud and feirce that other animals will often mistake bobcats for much larger predators and leave their territory. When they’re fully grown, bobcats can be as large as 40 in (100 cm) long, and weigh as much as 30 lbs (14kg); that’s almost triple the size of a domestic cat! Bobcats are actually relatives of domestic house-cats, but are rarely kept as pets; although they do turn up in animal shelters fairly often because of their habit of entering populated areas. In fact, during the California wildfires of a few years back, many bobcats were driven from their homes, including the little guy below, who found an interesting companion during his time at the animal shelter.
