Dogs With Jobs: Dalmatians of the Fire Department
Who had bets on how long it would take our Dogs with Jobs feature to star everyone’s favorite spotted pooch? A symbol for firefighters everywhere, forever associated with the brave men and women who fight fires the dalmatian breed also happens to boast some of the cutest puppies you’ve ever laid eyes on! But how did these cute baby animals come to be so intertwined with fire fighting? Well the story goes way back to before fire engines had big sirens and fast motors to when they were carts pulled by horses! Now the dalmatian breed, which has been around for over 600 years is renowned for its affinity for horses and so it became prudent for firefighters to keep dalmatians around their horses to calm the animals who would be needed to pull the cart to help put out fires at a moment’s notice. So today, these adorable baby animals grow up into big strong dalmatian dogs who still hang out with and represent the fire department, even if their role is now to be more of a mascot than anything else!
As you probably know dalmatians are white with black spots. However, when they are born they are all white and after three months they start growing their spots. Their spots can continue to evolve through the dogs life. Not only are the spots black but the can also come in shades of brown and even in a blue-ish hue. Their eyes can also be blue, brown, amber or mixed.
However many spots the dogs may have they are always high-energy and fun-loving.
