Everyone Loves Little Lambs

One of the cutest and softest creatures in the world, lambs are the adorable offspring or rams and ewes (male and female sheep). Born in groups of just one or two, lambs emerge after 5 months of gestation, and are imediately freed from the amniotic sack and cleaned by their mother. After about an hour, a lamb can stand up and takes its first steps, steps towards its mother so that it may suckle on vital colostrum milk. Once they reach maturity and are officially sheep, these kind creatures are not just the grazing wool factories that people think they are. Sheep are also farmed for daity products, kept as pets, and are even sometimes raced like horses (although sheep in steeplechase races don’t have jockeys). Some of the most famous sheep the world has ever seen are Dolly, the world’s first cloned mammal; and the sheep that United States President Woodrow Wilson used to graze on the White House lawn (he used the wool to support the World War 1 effort).
