Fluffy Yellow Chicks: Baby Chickens Are Adorable!
Imagine this keeper’s surprise when he was perusing the archives, and saw no trace of the most popular baby petting zoo animal of all time: adorable fluffy yellow chicken babies… chicks!
Classically, when a rooster loves a hen, a short while later you end up with some amazing eggs, which if fertilized and helped along by the warmth of a squatting mama hen will result in a bunch of peeping baby chicks. When they grow up, these baby birds will be prodigious eaters – omnivores who eat plant matter and animals alike, from insects to small lizards; but as babies, these adorable chicks generally stick to seeds and grains, especially captivity bred chickens who are totally fun to hand feed!
While there are a bunch of different species of wild chicken, the pictured baby chicks and the domesticated chickens that popularly come to mind when we think of chickens are all members of the subspecies G. g. domesticus. Keep it tuned to Baby Animal Zoo, and you just may end up seeing us take a look at some of the wilder and more unique species of chickens!
