Rare Baby White Bison Born in Connecticut
Though rural Goshen, Connecticut is probably not the first setting which leaps to mind when thinking of large roaming packs of gentle herbivore beasts like bison. There are only about 100 bison on Connecticut farms but this is in fact the site of one of the most intriguing baby bison births in the country in some time.
In Native American tradition the birth of a white bison is said to be a historical event with great meaning, and locals are flocking to the naming ceremonies and paying a lot of attention to the just-born calf.
This is a big deal that involves DNA testing, genealogy tracing and other scientific methods designed to ensure that this cute baby bison is the genuine article and not a cross-breed or otherwise genetically compromised. The calf is white but not an albino. Experts claim that only one in ten million bison will be born white, and in a country with a population of only about 500,000 bison, this baby animal birth is incredibly rare!
