Bush Dogs: A Cute Canid That Loves The Water
Bush Dogs are a species of canid found in the dry savannas, forests, grasslands, moist savannas, pasture-lands, savannas, subtropical / tropical dry forests, subtropical / tropical moist lowlands, subtropical / tropical moist mountains, subtropical / tropical swamp and temperate grasslands of Central and South America. Baby bush dogs are born in litters of 4 and are known as ‘whelps’ or ‘pups’. For a long time, bush dogs were thought to be extinct because they are so rarely seen and were only discovered via their fossils; in fact, the species is still listed a ‘near vulnerable’ and conservation efforts are being made for the species, with a focus on preventing deforestation. Bush dogs are known for how cute they are as whelps, and for their webbed feet, which they use to live a semi-aquatic lifestyle. They can currently be seen in zoos in places like Arkansas (U.S.), and the Edinburgh Zoo (U.K.).
