Parrots – Born Featherless and Goofy
Parrots are born looking pretty pathetic without any feathers at all. A few lucky species are born with a bit of a soft white down covering. They remain in the nest for a month to four months just waiting to be fed before they start to move around a little. Then they will still be dependent on the parents for awhile after that. When they start to grow their feathers is when they really look awkward and goofy like teenagers. They have big beaks and eyes and patches of feather emerging through their bald, loose skin. The feathers don’t take too long to come in but it will be several years before the birds are fully mature.
