Baby Capybaras Will Be Very Big Someday!
We here at the baby animal zoo know that sometimes rodents get mixed reactions, even from devout lovers of all things fuzzy and furry, but the capybara is something you’ve just got to see! The largest living rodents in the entire world, these South American animals grow up to 4 and a half feet long in adulthood (134 cm) and can weigh up to about 150 pounds! (66 kg) making them the size of some of the largest breeds of domestic dogs!
Of course, while young these giant rodents are still tiny and adorable. Their stunted faces and barrel-shaped bodies make these herbivores a funny sight to see out in the wild grazing on grasses, plants, fruit and treebark. Being so large and pudgy those of you who are not rodent lovers may not object to the site of the capybara. Also they have a calmer demeanor than some of those other smaller fidgety rodents and instead of a ugly skinless tail they have no tail at all.
Excellent swimmers, these cute baby capybaras can stay underwater for up to five minutes or more, which helps them keep safe when being tracked by an even larger animals stalking them from the trees. Being large and meaty the need to use their swimming abilities to evade predators. They can even sleep in the water as long as they have their nostrils above the surface of the water.
