Don’t CRANE Your Neck Staring at These Bitty Birds!
One of our recent favorite baby bird highlights has to be the hilariously gangly and awkward baby flamingo. If you loved those funny little birds, you are going to adore these cute baby cranes too!
Cranes are all part of the family Gruidae, meaning there are a lot of different species under the main umbrella of what we think of as “cranes”. These are some bitty birds who grow up to be water-dwelling birds with especially long legs and necks. Unlike flamingos who appear similar in a lot of ways, cranes have a much more diverse diet, including small rodents, frogs, newts, insects and fish, plus a variety of fruits, grasses and grains, making them totally non-picky omnivores.
Check out the image above – see those cute boots? Some cranes are born with painfully curled feet, making it difficult for them to walk. In captivity, helpful breeders wrap their tiny feet in little blue booties to help naturally straightening out their feet, so they can start wobbling around on their own sooner.
