Baby Gerbils, the Baby Rodents You Might Like
Gerbils are not indigenous to the Americas or Europe so if you come across babies it will probably be in a nice little pet cage environment. This is more likely to be pleasing than the reaction you might have coming across babies of other rodents like rats or mice in the “wild” or invading your garage. The babies look much like other rodents when born – not very attractive little pink balls of flesh. Litters are usually between 3 and 9 babies. After about 4 weeks they start to open their eyes, have hair and start getting adventurous. Its best to let the Mother take care of the babies at this point and not interfere. After 8-12 weeks they are fairly independent.
