Baby Hummingbirds: Tiny and Cute
The hummingbird is not just one species, but indeed a whole family of tiny birds, the smallest of which is the bee hummingbird, a tiny 5 cm critter who is the world’s smallest living bird species. Other hummingbirds don’t get that much bigger, averaging between 3 and 5 inches long. These cute birds start life as wet, buzzing little babies – chicks that mom carefully monitors in their earliest days. Hummingbirds aren’t just adorable, but serve a very important purpose for their ecosystems, as soon as a baby bird can fly, he or she starts the process of cross pollination as the little hummingbird begins to probe its beak into flowers, looking for nectar and small insects. Hummingbirds are very cute, but can be challenging to keep as pets, so these up close and personal pictures of humans feeding tiny chicks may be as close as you might get to seeing real-life hummingbird. That is unless you find the right spot on the right day and one of them comes up close to you or more likely comes looking for flowers near you. There are also feeders that you can hang by your home to entice the lightening-quick birds to come for a visit and drink a little nectar.
