Hakunah Matata: A Cute Baby Warthog Means No Worries
Admit it, Simba may have been the hero and Timon may have been the funniest, but who can really say that Pumba wasn’t their favorite character in the Lion King? A big ol’ softie with a heart of gold, Pumba is a Warthog from the African Savanna. Have you ever wondered about what real warthogs were like, especially cute baby warthogs?
Warthogs are a prolific and populous African species that is spread all across central Africa, from coast to coast. There are several subspecies, which are distinguished in part by where they live. Warthogs can live in dense wet jungles, or the dry vast rolling savannas. Just like you might expect from the film, warthogs will eat just about anything from bugs to bark, fungi and grasses. The opportunistic nature of the warthog’s diet even extends to carrion, as they are quite the prodigious scavengers. While these little wild hogs are cute right now, when they grow up, they can be quite dangerous and have even been known to run lions off with a fierce gore from their tusks.
