It’s not uncommon anymore for dogs to have jobs; they’re not doing your taxes or serving you lunch at your local diner, but all sorts of adorable dogs have found themselves with a greater purpose in life. Dogs do everything from helping the disabled to fighting crime these days, but recently The University of Pennsylvania was home to a dog event that even today isn’t ultra common: a full fledged graduation! The pups at the Penn Vet Working Dog Center got to walk down the aisle, receive their diplomas, and even where the old cap and tassel as they found themselves a part of the training facilities first ever graduating class. Center founder Cynthia Otto said that her and her associates “Started with big ideas and small puppies,” and now they’ve got a group of canines who will help make the world a better place. Named after rescue dogs who served during the 9/11/01 tragedy, the class will go on to work in rescue, bomb detection, diabetic alert services, and canine units all over the state; all while living with foster families who will love them and take care of them during their down time. So folks, if you’re ever in trouble in the state of Pennsylvania, don’t fear, because the dogs are here!
