Goats Can Have Accents?
Apparently they can, at least according to a new study done by the researchers at Queen Mary University of London. Researchers monitored baby goats at ages 1 to 5 weeks old. In the earlier weeks, the goats all had different sounding calls, but by week 5, the calls all sounded alike. This indicates that the goats learned form each other, effectively giving different groups different accents. The ability to modify and adapt sounds according to one’s enviroment was thought to be limited to some birds, whales, dolphins, bats, elephants, and humans. However, these baby goats are proving everyone wrong and showing that other species are capable of similar adaptions. This ability for vocal learning means that other species might also have undiscovered learning abilities.
