Grand Cayman Blue Iguanas Born in San Diego
These reptiles are critically endangered so it is good news that 9 were recently hatched. Conservationists at the San Diego zoo have been working to reproduce more of the blue lizards for more than 4 years and this year is the best result yet. The iguana family is doing fine but this particular species has been having a rough time surviving on its native island in the Caribbean. These hatchlings don’t look very blue but when they grow up the can be a bright shade of blue, especially when they have just shed their skin. Otherwise, they can appear light-blue to light-green.
