Gremlin or Tasier? Tiny, Big-Eyed Primate
Tiny and nocturnal, these gremlins or tarsiers are pretty reclusive so it isn’t very easy to get a glimpse of them with their babies in the wild. Also, they live rather far off in the jungles of Southeast Asia and they aren’t very common in zoos. In fact, one species (the pygmy tarsier) was thought extinct for almost 90 years because no one had come across any of the little primates until one day one was spotted in Indonesia. But lucky for us there is a sanctuary in the Philippines that is open to the public so there are a few photos of these enormous-eyed, fascinating, gremlin creatures and their young. Aside from the big eyes other notable qualities are their long legs, long hairless tails, swiveling heads and toepads. They have a rather calm demeanor but do become a little animated when snatching and eating crickets, etc.
