Markhors: WIld Goats Make Cute Babies
The national animal of Pakistan, the Markhor is an endangered species of wild goat. Like all animals, Markhors start off as little squirts like the rest of us, but they grow up to be 45 in (115 cm) tall and weigh 240lbs (110kg), and grow powerful corkscrewed horns that reach heights of up to 64 in (160 cm). They also grow extremely woolly coats and beards. Markhors gestate for between 135 and 170 days, and are born in groups of one or two. Markhors live in flocks of around nine animals that are composed of adult females and their babies. Adult make Markhors are solitary animals that tend to shy away from the flock. In recent years, many scientists have hypothesized that Markhors are a sort of living fossil, and are actually the ancestors of modern goats. Markhors tend to live between 10 and 13 years, and are herbivores.
