Memphis Zoo Welcomes New Baby Sea Lion
Born last month at the Memphis Zoo, Teva is the south’s newest California sea lion, one of the cutest marine mammals around. If you’re in the greater Memphis area, we encourage you to pay the zoo a visit as by now her acclimation period is at an end, and little Teva should be out with the other sea lions for all visitors to see. Zoo officials like to keep small, cute furry baby animals like Teva separate from the display animals for safety at first, to allow the pup time to get used to their new surroundings. But small she won’t be for long as female sea lions eventually average about 220 pounds (100 kg) while the males are usually weigh more than double that!
The birth of little Teva comes as a major milestone for the zoo who is trying to boost its sea lion population and create a perpetually living family of sea lions on location at the Memphis Zoo. For those not in the area, we recommend you check out this news story and/or spend some time looking at the pictures of baby sea lions.
