The Story Of Medo The Bear Cub
It’s no secret that brown bears eventually grow up to be pretty scary creatures. With a maximum size of over 1,500 pounds (but a surprising minimum of around 180 pounds), the brown bears that are distributed throughout North America, Asia, and Europe have become one fo the most feared carnivores on the planet. However, for a few months in 2011, a little bear cub named “Medo” (it would later be called “Lucky”) was one of the most adorable and loving pets in the world.
Wandering onto the Slovenian property of the Logar family in June of 2011, Medo had apparently been abandoned by or separated from his mother and had nowhere to live. Medo immediately began to make himself at home, rough housing with his new dad, rolling around on furniture, and even taking to hugging the family dog. It’s at this point that the Logar’s decided that they wanted to keep Medo in an enclosure so that they could insure his safety and watch him grow up, thus starting one of the biggest animal custody battles in the country’s history, as animal control officials wanted to send Medo back into the wild. The Logars eventually agreed on a mid-ground solution that would place Medo in a shelter for displaced bears, but that idea would also run into some obstacles, namely the apparent theft of Medo! That’s right folks, someone stole a baby bear! Don’t worry though, they eventually found him and Medo was sent to live in a bear sanctuary where he can grow up to be the man-bear his human family always hoped he’d be, and they’ll always remember that time that they had their very own pet bear!
