Totally Tubular Tiny Toads!
Tiny baby toads are part of an Order of creatures in the animal kingdom which are separated into many different species. Unlike their Amphibian cousins, frogs – toads are characterized by their dry and leathery skin. Like frogs, however, most toads lay eggs which hatch into tadpoles who grow into their adult form when they reach sexual maturity.
During this very time of year, in wooded areas all over the world tiny baby toads are emerging and singing a song which some mistake for crickets or other insects. If you live near some woods, listen out your window tonight, and see if you can hear any distinct high peeping sounds. Those are probably tiny toads! Small and spotted, these adorable baby animals are sitting on rocks, trees and in grass all around you. Be very careful though, while some are small enough to be easily caught and held, you can hurt a small toad if you don’t know how to handle one. Have a look at these photos or maybe check them out your local zoo to see them up close.
